Louis Stuart (Stu) Lystad, 88, of Montrose CO, formerly of Longboat Key FL and McLean IL, passed away peacefully on August 19, after a brief illness. With his loving children by his side, he is now reunited with his wife, Carol Capen Lystad, who preceded him in death in 2008.A graduate of Bloomington (IL) High School and Illinois Wesleyan University, "Stu" served in the U.S. Army, before settling in Fayetteville AR where he learned to raise livestock on the Lazy A Ranch while also teaching high school mathematics. After marrying Carol Capen, they moved to McLean IL where he took over the management of the Capen family farms, across various parts of McLean County, and actively operated a corn and soybean operation on the homestead west of Funks Grove.Upon retiring from active farming in 1986, he became a commodities broker based in Sarasota FL, and was an active tennis and golf participant at various clubs on Longboat Key.
